Marylise attracts a wide range of brides all over the world. The secret of the collection’s success is its winning balance of simplicity, femininity and refinement. Every year Marylise comes up with surprising new models and details. Designer Alden Misolas gives us a preview.
"At Marylise we prefer to speak of evolution rather than revolution, Simplicity and femininity - the mainstays of the collection - are always present, but they are expressed differently."
"Half of the collection of 2012 consists of updates of existing success numbers that we have translated into new fabrics and with new details. ” says Alden. “Like draped models, which are still much loved by our clientele. The other half of the collection consists of brand new silhouettes, colours and fabrics. The modern cut focuses mainly on the fifties. We have produced an elegant, contemporary interpretation of the “New Look”. Tight waists and flowing skirts are the collection’s key silhouette. Exquisite jacquard fabrics and striped fabrics in grey and ivory are one of the many novelties in this collection. For less formal weddings there are six short dresses in ivory, made in organza, satin and taffeta.”
The décolleté
A lot of attention goes into the décolleté and the back cut-out. In addition to the models with boat necks there are many bustier models and other deep décolletés. The models with lacing on the back not only look super feminine and sexy, they also have many advantages for bridal shops and brides. Thanks to the lacing, dresses can be fitted perfectly to any figure, which saves a lot of alterations and means that the bride can look in the mirror and see a perfect fitting dress. She doesn’t even have to worry if her weight varies slightly towards the wedding date, her dress will always fit her perfectly. Romance is ubiquitous in jacquard fabrics with flower motifs. And silk flowers can be attached to a shoulder strap or the belt.
Jackets à la carte
There are many jackets, too, that can be combined with different dresses. Last season we had combinations of dresses with matching jackets, now we have separate jackets that can be ordered in different fabrics and colours, offering endless combinations. This personal service is an important advantage.
The details: focus on belts
All eyes will be focussed on waists next season. So it’s no wonder that belts will be so important. Belts will actually be integrated into the dresses. There are belts and ribbons in petersham, too. Jewellery was made especially for the collection. Like long earrings and chokers that go perfectly with the bustier dresses. Brooches worked into the models add a luxurious touch without looking overdone. Marylise is always subtle and balanced.”
